REACH is the European Regulation for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals, which came into force in 2007.
EU Regulation No. 1907/2006 “REACH” (which stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) issued on 30 December 2006, profoundly revises EU standards for control of chemical substances for the protection of health and the environment. For the first time, it gives the industry responsibility for demonstrating the safety of its products.
Within the exploration and production and gas and power sectors, specific responsibilities have been defined for the implementation of REACH, which is now an integral part of the integrated HSE management system. With regard to the refining and marketing sector, a special unit has been created reporting to the HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment and Quality) unit to oversee the implementation of the provisions of REACH with the involvement of all the corporate roles affected.
